Jerry Uelsmann creates his surrealist images in the dark room by combing multiple negatives together to form one image. Uelsmann is one of the first people in his time to use this technique in an usual way. The way he works is not easy, and infact is quite complicated as he spends time making sure that every image he captures to combine together are perfect.
This image here gives me the impression that the viewer is looking at from a beach, and is watching someone who is spiritual walking out on to the sea in search for something or someone. The clouds look like angel wings with a halo and the sun is shining through which gives it a sort of peaceful atmosphere, like you're watching something amazing happening. The rule of thirds have a key element in this image as well as the texture from the sea. Even though there is so much going on in the image, there is still a balance to the picture.Me personally, when I saw this image I thought that the whole image had be captured in one go but when you think of the style that Jerry Uelsmann works in it's obviously a load of negatives that he has worked very hard to get.
