When we first were given the assignment on ‘My visual diary’ I wasn’t to keen on the idea of having to document down what I’d been doing everyday and posting it on to a blog. My first idea was to do a journal, and stick in the pictures I’d taken each day in to there and write about them. I then realised it would cost a bit in printing and if something was to happen to it I didn’t have a back up so I then created an Instagram account to document down my days as instagram is a great place to share photos but unfortunately it’s not a great place to write down everything on like an actual blog. So in the end I gave in and created a blog on wix, that at first seemed to be very complicated but now I absolutely love it! Creating my blog on this website was probably the best thing I did as it’s easy to access and also means I don’t have to publish it till I’m ready so I had time to sort out my blog and make it nice and neat before anyone could see it.
My favourite part so far is learning all these different techniques that will help in future work. Even though I didn’t like certain inductions like the lighting induction they were still really handy to know about and put in to my blog. I think at the beginning of this project I was quite confused on how to go about it all, I struggled on what to write and what pictures were suitable to put on to my blog, but after the first week it started to get easier and I found writing on my blog to be more enjoyable.
A lot of my research was through class time, I found the information given to us in class to be very helpful and it also made it easier to add in my own research on to my blog. We were provided information of pintrest that had information on about what we were doing. The research really helped me to write my blog, I felt a lot more confident having all the information behind me, and being able to put it in to my own words. I also started doing 'Inspirational Tuesday' which is were i found an image that inspired me in a way and posted it on my blog to write about and say why i was inspired and how i would pushed forward my idea of what i would do if i was going to work in their style.
Since I travel a lot to and from college I was always inspired by what was around me and who was around me. Days when I wasn’t at college I still documented down on my blog as I found it kept me going and I stayed in the right frame of mind to do it. I learnt a lot from this first project and it made me take more images while I was out and about which I actually enjoyed doing, when I first started I had to make a conscious effort to take a picture of what I was doing but now it just comes natural and anything I see which inspires me I automatically take a picture and note it down incase it ever comes in handy when taking images or in other projects.
I knew a fair amount about lighting, depth of field, Photoshop etc. since I did photography GCSE but I found going back over it all in inductions to be very helpful and it then helped me to remember other things that I had learnt which I thought I had forgotten, it was also nice to see what other people where capable of and see something different instead of the same thing. It also meant that we were able to help each other do different things on photoshop.
I think in all my images, without the writing along side are quite clear and speak for themselves. Most the images on my blog are taken on my IPhone; some of my blog posts are pretty basic and are just of what I’ve been doing during the day, so some of the images aren’t as exciting as others on my blog. Any image that I can relate to in any shape of form I find it so much easier to write about and explain my thoughts and feelings.
I’m not really one for using computers, so it took me a couple of weeks to get use to having to use the computer for pretty much everything. I’m very use to just uploading images and leaving it at that but now all the work goes on the computer I have to change the way I work.
I think I’ve been pretty successful with ‘my visual diary’ project, a lot of what is suppose to be there is there and a few extra pieces. If I was to do this again I would probably plan more as I’ve learnt that having plan makes things a lot easier rather than deciding on the day, it also means I have more time to think and make my work the best it can be.
