Right, this morning we watched this documentrycreated by Martin Parr on what it's like to be English back in 1999! It showed a range of people from 'higher' class and 'lower' class that lived life differently but all had one thing in common... they thought being English was great. A lot of people said they'd rather stay in England and go to the seaside like they did when they were kids rather than go abroad in the sun. The question was asked 'are you British or English?' and everyone that answered that question said they were English because they did class walse or scottland as 'equal' to them. One of the camera crew said how England wasn't very good at a lot of things and the gentlmens reply was 'are you scottish or something' as if being scottish was a 'bad thing'.
As we're now in 2016, I think the views on being English are very different! You dont hear a lot of people say they're proud to be English but that they're proud to be British! People would rather go away to hotter countries and be somewhere other than England to feel like they've been on holiday. Things are also a lot stricter now, a young group said how everywhere they were able to go to hang out and have a tea or coffee had gone because they werent making enough money which meant they were hangging around in pubs under age drinking.. now someone under age cant even walk in a pub without the company of an adult.
