Normally, I'm not to thrilled when it comes to monday mornings looking through the contexual studies powerpoint but today was pretty decent. We looked through different social documentry photographers between the years 1890 - 1958 who showed various social classes around the world. The photographer who stood out for me most was Dorothea Lange who took an imagine called Mirgrant Mother (1936), I thought the image showed so much emotion and meaning. Looking at a mother with her children looking so drained and tired is just so heartbreaking to even think about.

Social documentry photographer's style was to shoot in black and white with the imagine looking a little grainy... that was untill Martin Parr came along! He took images in colour, showing off all the bright colours and textures yet he used a front flash which made the people in his images look unappealing and a little rough. Martin Parr very rarely took a flattering picture of someone, he made igh class/ middle class look like lower class citizens.

Here are the two images next to each other, both shoot in different styles yet both documenting through photography. When looking at these images, you get two completely different emotions come across, not just because two emotions are being showed but because the techniques of how the image was taken is different all together.
