Russian Artist Malevich created this imaged called 'the square' is was done in 1915 and was built up of many different colours. This image represent the war in which was going on and it was almost that all the colours were painted with love and respect and started off telling a story as the brighter colours showed the happy times in loifes and by the time the square got to black their lifes were over.

When asked what the black square was, Malevich spoke "Everything which we loved is lost. We are in a desert... Before us is nothing but a black square on a white background!"
